Pirates confirm exit of Brazilian defender

Orlando Pirates have terminated the contract of Brazilian fullback Caio Marcelo by mutual consent, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old arrived last season, but failed to win a regular place in the starting line-up, making only seven domestic appearances the entire campaign.

He had been due to make a loan move to Chippa United in this transfer window, but decided against a shift to Port Elizabeth and has instead requested his release.

“The club has agreed to release the player as per his request,” Pirates said in a statement.

“Marcelo had submitted a request in writing citing home sickness and inability to adjust to his new surroundings as reasons to want to go back to Brazil.

“The club has since acceded to Mr Marcelo's request having spoken to the player and his father. We would like to wish him the best in his future endeavours.”
